Smart Branches

As a continously evolving system, Plastic SCM is constantly providing advancesd new features for its users, with the aim of satisfying every possible demand.

The new branch system called "smart branches" provides wider possibilities for your company´s development, easing to a higher extent the implementation of any type of working pattern, especially designed to improve the "branch per task" pattern and parallel development. Smart branches remember their base or starting point, which is set when the branch is created, so whenever the user switches to work with a branch, he does not have to indicate its starting point as the branch itself keeps track of it.

Whenever a developer creates a new branch, a new and improved dialog will be displayed: this dialog allows users to set as branch base any label, changeset from its parent branch, or "None" which would indicate that its base will be its parent branch latest changes. But that is not all!, at any time, a branch´s properties can be changed so it can be given a different base, comment or name...but of course the history of its previous base will not be lost!

You can have a look on the following screenshot at Plastic´s branch explorer; as shown, branch /task1234 was created based on a changeset on branch /main but its base was later on changed to another changeset and the history keeps track of both bases and displays it visually. Just by right clicking on the branch the properties menu can be selected and any new base will be shown by refreshing the status.
